Future Proof Your Computing Investment - the Sun Green Data Centre
Building the Case for Green Computing
8.45 - 12.30, Wednesday 14th May, BSG House, London, EC1V
In this breakfast briefing, chaired by Gary Barnett, Research Director at independent analysts The Bathwick Group, Sun, Appgate and managed services provider BSG will examine some of the ways that you can be greener in your data centre and save money at the same time. In other words, the more efficiently your data centre is run and the more efficiently resources are used, the less wasteful you are and the better the return you get on your investment.
The agenda includes: the green agenda and its impact within IT, how Sun are addressing these issues with their technology via their Eco Innovation Initiative, how specific technologies such as Solaris 10, Cool Threads and Virtualisation can be used to address these issues, how Appgate and Sun are working together to deliver faster more efficient and green security and mobility solutions, and finally how BSG can help you design, deploy, operate and improve a more green and cost effective IT infrastructure.
Upon completion of this briefing you will have learnt some different ways to help you cut costs and reduce your carbon footprint. Soon you may be forced to take some of these steps whether you want to or not!
With phase II of the Climate Change Levy coming into affect on 1st January 2008, as well as the continued rise of the cost of power, there is growing pressure to be more energy efficient. Reducing the carbon footprint in the working environment is becoming a global imperative. The UK government and public are increasingly aware of environmental issues and are demanding change. IT can be responsible for up to 40% of an organisation's carbon footprint with data centres being the biggest contributors to this figure. The annual global cost of electricity consumed by data centres is over $7bn which has an associated carbon footprint of between 100m and 150m tonnes of CO2.
On top of this, in South East England the national grid is reaching breaking point. The electricity company, EDF, has warned it is no longer able to increase supply to data centres and requires formal notification of any plans to expand or create new centres in order to assess the ability to supply the required power. Additionally, institutional investors are increasingly demanding publication of carbon liabilities fearing possible legislation as governments commit to global emissions targets.
So, how could you go about turning your IT environment green? Register now for this free seminar to find out how SUN, Appgate and BSG can help save you money and reduce your carbon footprint.
